The Aesthetics of Culture

The elegance and beauty of a people.

The elegance and beauty of a people.

I’ve been fortunate enough over the past few years to shoot several events focusing on Central Asian culture.  I admit my woeful ignorance of this portion of the world.  I’ve spent time in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Central and South America, but not India and it’s neighbors.  I think I share this with a lot of Americans, which is strange since India is the second most populous place on Earth.

I must also confess that my interest is not purely educational, it is largely aesthetic.  As a photographer the sheer brilliance of color and style, the adornments and simply are compositional dream.  The vivacious joy of the events I’ve attended always deliver exciting and moving images.  In short, the events and their participants are incredibly photogenic.

I’m fortunate I live in place where these cultural events are a subway ride away.  Still, I finally understand why this portion of the world draws so many Westerners.
