Looking Back on Choices

One of the reasons I love photography is the opportunity to peak inside lives I’ve not lived.  It’s why I choose some of the subject I shoot.  I will never know what being  Gay is like, or a Hare Krishna, or proposing to beautiful dancer in public.  (OK, that COULD still happen, but it’s not likely.) Through the lens, I catch just a glimpse of their lives.

Shooting last weekend in a room full of children, I caught just a glimpse of what my light might be if I made different choices.  It was interesting to think about, what kind of parent would I be, who would my children be, would I be watching my daughter walk down the aisle about now?  As I sit here, I’ve no regrets, particularly because I know how much a wedding photographer costs!  Still, I wonder what being on the other side of the lens might be like.
